Who says an inverter generator needs to be expensive? In my Briggs & Stratton P2000 Portable Generator review I talk about the quality this machine brings to the table at an affordable price.

Inverter style generators are fantastic to have because you can use them with sensitive electronics like your laptop and not have to worry about them surging and damaging the circuits. They are also much quieter, more fuel efficient, and more lightweight and portable than conventional portable generators. The drawback is that they are much more expensive than standard generators. That is until the Briggs & Stratton P2000 Portable Inverter Generator came out on the market.

The Briggs & Stratton 030473 Portable Generator delivers all the power you need during an emergency power outage, or for camping trips, picnics, and outdoor parties. It works on inverter technology so that it only delivers the electricity you need, making it very fuel efficient. It is also one of the quietest generators on the market in this price range. Reviews of this generator are overwhelmingly positive. Although some people claim that other models are more powerful, for this price you simply cannot find another generator with the same advanced features.

Fill Up and Go

When Briggs & Stratton designed this engine, they definitely had their customer’s comfort and convenience in mind. The engine weighs in at just 50 pounds, making it one of the lighter models on the market. It also has two handles on the top so it can easily be transported from place to place. Furthermore, the engine is extremely easy to set up. You can simply take it out of the box, fill it with gas and oil, and it is ready to go. This makes it a great little power source even for those who have no experience with generators.

Intelligent Power Usage

One of the best things about the Briggs & Stratton P2000 Portable Generator is that it uses computer controlled digital inverter technology to gauge exactly how much electricity is needed to power your appliances. It will automatically adjust the engine speed so that you get sufficient power without surges or power loss. Although it has a capacity of 2000 watts of power at starting time and 1600 watts during continuous running time, it will never use more than you need. This saves on fuel, and ensures that the engine runs smoothly and consistently.

Whisper Quiet

This engine is also very quiet, making it perfect for use at home or on a campsite. The engine uses a Lo-Tone muffler to decrease the noise of the engine and prevent the generator from vibrating. Traditional generators work on high speeds all the time regardless of the power being used. This can be very noisy and irritating. The PowerSmart inverter technology and powerful muffler mean that you can bring this portable generator anywhere and even use it in close quarters. The company even guarantees that it is 38% quieter than a standard camping generator.

Smooth Running for All Devices

The consistent and reliable power of the P2000 generator makes it an excellent choice for virtually any type of small or medium sized appliance. The recoil start means that there is little chance of an electrical mishap when starting devices. This means that even sensitive devices like laptops, televisions, and gaming systems can be powered safely with the Briggs & Stratton 030473 Portable Generator.

In addition, the 105cc OHV engine can handle larger appliances like refrigerators, air conditioning units, and indoor and outdoor lights. The two 120-volt AC outlets and one 12-volt DC outlet mean you can also power many items at the same time. This is very useful during a power outage. The unit even comes with battery charging cables.

One Gallon Goes a Long Way

The Briggs & Stratton 030473 Portable Generator is also very easy on gas. The PowerSmart mode ensures that fuel is not wasted on unnecessary power surges. The one gallon tank can last up to 6.5 hours of continuous running at a load of 25%. This means that you can keep important appliances running during a loss of power without constantly refilling the tank. Furthermore, you do not have to spend a fortune on gas for the generator.

What Customers Are Saying: The Good

The Briggs & Stratton P2000 Portable Generator gets mainly positive reviews from customers. People like the fact that it is very easy to set up. All you need to do is fill up the gas and oil, and the generator can be used immediately. Many customers comment that on the initial start-up the generator only took two or three pulls to start running. After that the majority of users found that it only took one pull to start the engine from then on out.

The generator is also great on gas. Users have reported that the generator can run for up to 10 hours for light loads without running dry. For heavier loads, the gas tank lasts about 4-5 hours. Quite a few people commented on how quiet the engine is, reporting that they had no problems sleeping while the generator was on and nearby. Many users also like the fact that it comes with a connector to start car batteries, which is an added bonus. Finally, the affordable price is a big selling point for many customers.

What Customers Are Saying: The Bad

One problem that a few people have commented on is the fact that this generator cannot handle many large appliances at once. This seems to be a problem mainly with people who attempted to use heavy duty power tools with the generator. This may also be because they tried to use many high powered appliances at one time. The good thing about this situation is that the generator has a red light to alert users when the generator is being overloaded. This way you can avoid the power kicking out completely. Another thing that people commented on was that it took a while for the generator to start in cold weather. Like most engines, the generator needs time to warm up in cold temperatures.

Overall the P2000 gets very high ratings from customers. On Amazon.com there were over 30 reviews when I checked, with an average rating of 3.9 out of 5 stars. Over 77% of owners give this generator 4 or 5 stars, which is an excellent rating. You can read more Briggs & Stratton P2000 Portable Generator reviewsby clicking here.

This is an excellent and very accurate review/opinion. I have a Honda 8000 and have wired home panel for it’s use during power outages. For other smaller uses, this generator is too loud and uses too much gas. The B&G P2000 is perfect for this application. I use it on my boat, camping and any other application where 1 or 2 small to medium size appliances will be used. A simple formula to match grnerator output to your intended use:

Every appliance or electric device has an amperage draw rating on the tags. Let’s say a portable work light has and amperage draw of 3 amps. You know it works on 120 volts a/c (typical home outlet). Multiply amperage X voltage, (3 amps X 120 volts). This equates to of 320 watts. You need a generator that will produce a minimum of 320 watts to power this device. Also keep in mind every appliance will require approximately 10% more power for the initial start up, then it will run on 320.watts constant. Air conditioners, refridgerators and any other device that operates with a compressor will cycle on and off during use and this also dalls under the additional 10% rule.
